Summer Reading

Now that all my favorite TV shows have ended for the season there's really nothing left to watch on TV so instead I try to occupy my time with reading a good book. I find it's always nice to sit outside when it's cool and just enjoy a good book. For me it's very relaxing especially when you're really into it to where time escapes you and next thing you know it's 1:00am but you don't want to put the book down because it's getting so good. I love that feeling! So my goal for this summer is to read 3 books, I was thinking of going with 5 but I didn't want to overwhelm myself so I thought 3 was a good start. Plus it's summer time I'll enjoying my time in the sun having fun! So below are my top 3 must read books! Any other good recommendations for a good summer read are definitely welcome!

I, along with the rest of the world have been so intrigued about what all the fuss it about over Fifty Shades of Grey so it's definitely on my must read list.

I am a huge fan of Nicholas Spark so to hear this book, Safe Haven is being made into a film in the near future with one of my all time favorite actors, Josh Duhamel, I definitely needed to put it on my list. If it's anything like The Notebook then we are in for another amazing romantic movie that will leave us in tears!

I read The Great Gatsby book years ago in high school and it was one of my favorite books of all time! So to hear it's currently being adapted into a film with some GREAT actors it's definitely something I needed to revisit to refresh my memory. Can't wait for the film!

To the class of 2012...

...wear sunblock :)

With my cousin and sister graduating high school this weekend, I thought it would be appropriate to list some things that I wish I knew when I graduated. What would be your #1 piece of advice to offer up to the class of 2012?

Andrea

1. Do what makes you happy.
- Unless you win the lotto you will have the whole rest of your life to work, make your job something that you really enjoy. It shouldn't feel like work. Life is too short to not spend it laughing and enjoying your time here.

2. Email etiquette.
- Learn it and use it. Its how most people communicate and you're going to want to come across as clear and professional when using it.

3. Charts.
- I have never used SO many charts. Learn how to whip one out in a pinch. Charts rule my life!

4. You don't have to do things to seem "cool".
-  Remember that you are the one in control of your life, not some "friend" of yours. In the end, you need to do whats right for you.

5. Save your money!
- I sound like my father saying this to me. Its true, be smart about your money and save it. Make wise decisions about your money.

Strawberry Treats!

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! I sure did spending it was friends, family and I even squeezed in some serious time in the sun to work on my tan. To stay hydrated while getting some sun, I made a basic pink lemonade from a frozen concentrate which is always quick and never disappoints on taste. I also made some popsicles from the same lemonade in my new popsicles making container I bought over the weekend. To make the lemonade and popsicles even better I cut up some fresh strawberries which just added more flavor!

I poured the pink lemonade and fresh strawberries into my new popsicle maker I bought from Target. Let me tell you, it has turned out to be my best purchase yet for the summer and all the festivities to come! It was definitely worth the whole $2.50 I spent on it so a big high five to myself!

Voila! My frozen strawberry pink lemonade popsicles which turned out to be so good! They were the perfect treat while laying out by the pool and I just couldn't help but eat a couple that's how delicious they were.

Inspired by: The Great Gatsby

Have you all seen this trailer? I loved every second of it! Leo doesn't look half as bad, but all the fashion was just mesmerizing. All the 20's fashion was glamorous, everything sparkled and seemed so luxurious. I've picked out some 20's inspired fashion below. Sequins....Sequins....Sequins!!!

Current Obsession: Skull Bracelets

Image via Rebecca
Usually if something really awesome catches my eye, I tend obsess about it to where I must share it with everyone. In this case, I have to share my current obsession which are my favorite skull bracelets! I have always loved skulls ever since I can remember, I don't know why because there kind of creepy but they're one of my favorite things to collect. I will buy anything with skulls whether it's jewelry, decor, accessories, candles, notepads etc. But anyways, these bracelets were a gift from my generous sister who often spoils me with cute little accessories like this which I love and always welcome! I really like the color strands on each bracelet making them stand out and they add color to my outfits which makes them a top accessory piece for me right now hence the "current obsession"!

A Good Find: Shortcake Biscuits

When its hot outside, I despise baking. I can't take the heat in the kitchen because I'd much rather be outside enjoying some rays or hanging out in the pool. So whenever it heats up, I am always looking for new ways to enjoy a little sweet after we BBQ. I've mentioned by obsession with Trader Joe's before, and it got worse after discovering these little bad boys. These shortcakes are so good! I cut 1 in half, added in  vanilla ice cream and topped it all off with some sweet strawberries. Such an easy dessert that you could easily change up with whatever fruit is in season.

Toes in the Sand

Image via Rebecca
I had such a good time this weekend playing in the sun and having fun with my family. We got an early start on Saturday morning with a drive to Malibu along the beautiful coast. It was seriously so nice out it was only fitting to drive with the windows down and the sunroof open taking in the California Sun. We decided to get a bite to eat at the one and only Neptune's Net Seafood Restaurant right off of PCH. It's a definite must if you take a drive down to the beach to stop and eat there. We over indulged in some amazing seafood it was so good! We then drove down the coast to find a good spot to take a walk along the beach which was amazing.

I made good on my promise to go to the beach this summer and let me tell you it won't be the last. I plan on going a lot more so get ready for more beach shots.

Once I put my feet in the sand, I immediately starting singing the song from Incubus', "Wish You Were Here" where the first part of the song starts with "I dig my toes into the sand, the ocean looks like a thousand diamonds strewn across a blue blanket. I lean against the wind and pretend I am weightless and in this moment I am happy." It's such a great song and totally described what I was feeling at that time. I didn't want to leave the beach it's so relaxing taking in the fresh air and awesome scenery.

I can really say the time spent on the beach with my family was truly a happy moment especially because my sweet and amazing grandma was there to join us.  Love her!
Happy Monday Everyone!

Throwback Thursday!

This week I was looking at some old pictures where I came across a few oldies but goodies and a few "what was I thinking?!" pictures. I had some good laughs looking thru them and remembering the moments when they were taken. Today I wanted to share and take it back old school with a picture from when I was 5 years old on my first day at preschool. At that age, I didn't have a care in the world but to play in the sun and have fun. Oh how I miss those days! I'm so glad I have so many pictures to remind me of those awesome times in my childhood, such great memories!

I really believe at the age of 5, I was a true trendsetter. I mean look at my outfit!!! From head to toe it screams fashion! My bright blue pants were a hit then and are even back in style now. Let's not overlook my red polka dot polo shirt and my blue & red barrettes to match my outfit's color theme. That's some serious color blocking right there. Now the best part of this outfit was my awesome accessory, my clown lunchbox! I loved that lunchbox so much and still wish I had it now.
So take a minute and reminisce I guarantee it will give you a good laugh, it sure did for me.
Happy Thursday!

Chanel Resort 2013

Mr. Lagerfeld presented his 2013 resort collection in Versailles, France on Monday. This is what it would look like if Marie Antoinette and Little Bo Peep had a baby and lived in the year 3015.

Some of the more wearable pieces below. No, I would not wear a bodysuit with only a jacket over it, but I would totally ROCK that pretty in pink jacket :)

Candle in the Wind

Voluspa Crisp Champagne Candle

During these cool Spring and Pre-Summer nights, it's been my thing lately to open up the windows and light up some candles letting the air breeze thru giving my room a soothing scent. Candles always add a calming almost Zen-like feel especially when I'm spending time in my room after a busy day. I really like anything in a flowery or fruity scent as long as it smells good I'll take it. The past couple of days I've been trying out a new candle I received as a gift from Anthropologie called Voluspa Crisp Champagne. It smells soooo good and I love the decorated tin it comes it which serves as piece of decor in my room. I also really love the idea of giving them as gifts, why not spread the Zen-like feel with others.

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Happy Thursday everyone! What does everyone have planned for the mother figure in their life this weekend? My siblings have something special planned for my momma, hopefully she likes it! When mother's day comes around I always remember the other mother figure's in my life, my 2 aunts and grandma. When you put my mom, her sisters, and their mother in the same room its such a powerful force. Amazing strong woman who have taught me the best things in life.

Since many of you may be trying to scramble last minute to get something for your mother, look no further, I've gathered up some pretty cool items to show your appreciation from all the blog surfing I have been doing this week. If none of the below tickle your pickle, you may want to just pick up a gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure or order a canvas print from an online service (there are so many out there like this one). An old picture of you when you were a baby would look so awesome! I wonder what Blue Ivy is getting Beyonce??

Andrea

Met Gala

This past Monday marked the date of the annual Met Gala's Benefit Ball which is also known as the Oscar's of the Fashion Industry. It's a night to celebrate the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s Fashion Exhibit which holds some of the most gorgeous exhibits of costumes and accessories. It's hosted by Vogue Magazine every year where the red carpet is filled with fashion industry experts, designers, celebrities dressed in amazing gowns and designs. I enjoy seeing what everyone is wearing and admiring the designs walking down the red carpet so this is something I look forward to seeing. It was an overload on fashion with so many gorgeous gowns but I've narrowed it down to my top five favorites. Trust me it was really hard to pick!

P.O.C (Pop Of Color)

A little pop of color goes a long way. Even though Sundays are meant to be carefee and lazy, these pants provide a laidback yet polished look. I highly recommend a pair of bright pants for the upcoming summer season.

Out and About

Outfit: Vince Camuto sweater, Hudson Jeans & Enzo Angiolini Booties

I can't believe it's already Monday again! Sometimes the weekend goes by too fast, those 2 days are really not enough time to relax and get everything accomplished. Well this weekend was really fun albeit it was only 2 days! I spent it with friends enjoying a nice BBQ as we celebrated Cinco De Mayo and watched the intense boxing match. Now to change things up a bit on the blog, here's a picture from a few weeks back of a fun day spent out and about. Plus I really just wanted to show you all one of my favorite sweaters from Vince Camuto, it was a gift for my birthday from one of favorite people, the Pates! Hope you all have a great Monday and rest of the week!

Side by Side

Image via Rebecca

Of course this week I added yet another ring to my ever growing collection, this one is from H&M (above right) one of my favorite stores. I loved this ring for few reasons - not only was the style awesome and the $5.95 I spent even better but also because it reminded me of the ring from Cartier's Panther Collection featured in my Experience Cartier post. Placing these rings side by side they look very similar but of course the brand Cartier and price of $10,400 is what makes them extremely different!!! Realistically I won't be buying any Cartier pieces any time soon but that's why I'm glad H&M is inspired to make similar accessories at an affordable price. There's nothing better than buying accessories especially when it doesn't make a big dent in my wallet!

LUNA

We've had Luna for over a month now and words cannot describe how much I just love her. Her new training class has taught her to "stay", which I turn around and use to take pictures of her. Below are some snaps I took of her this weekend, they were too cute not to post!

Beach Essentials

So summer time is fast approaching and it's time to soak in the sun! Living in Southern California, we are so lucky to have the ocean right at our fingertips. This summer I'm so looking forward to going to the beach because I need some color, my pale skin is not really working for me. I usually always say I'm going to go but never do which is lame but this year I am for sure going! Mark my words everyone! There are so many things I miss like the sound of the ocean, the sand, the drive along the beach seeing the waves crashing and just laying down in the sand. It just feels different when you're at the beach. Now one can never go to the beach unprepared especially us women, we pack as if we are setting up camp for a week. Some make fun but when it comes time to needing something we are always prepared with the all the essentials. So in preparation for summer, I've complied my top 5 essentials for a day at the beach. I'm sure between now and summer the 5 will turn into 20 essentials, what can I say I'm a girl and have a tendency to over pack.

The essentials by Rebecca

1. Old Navy Beaded Caftan - Flowy layering piece to put on over your bathing suit
2. Vogue Magazine - Reading material is a must & a great way to pass the time sitting in the sun
3. Coppertone Sunscreen - Gotta protect your skin from the bad rays so you don't get all wrinkly & leathery
4. iPhone - I can't leave the house with my iPhone plus it serves a double purpose since it has iTunes
5. H20 - Extremely important to stay hydrated at the beach my favorite water of choice is Smart water
